The Basin Rottnest

One of the most popular beaches on Rottnest Island is The Basin. Its sheltered waters are fantastic for families with young kids and it has some fantastic snorkeling as well. Its only a 10min walk from the Rottnest Island settlement and you’ll pass heaps of Quokkas on the way out there.   Most people in Perth have at least one or two extremely fond memories of Perth from their childhood.  I myself remember as a 12yr old scampering through the old WW2 tunnels with a torch.  It was like a boys own adventure.

For Australian landscape photography its an amazing and diverse place with photographic opportunities in the Thompsons Bay Settlement all the way through to the West End.   The place has an amazing if not always pleasant history and was also the graveyard for many ships during early colonial times.   Some of my most faovourite photos of this place are of my sons interacting with the tiny and lovable Quokkas on the island.
